About the business
Imagine waking up every morning to live, work and play in one of the most stunning parts of New Zealand.
Nestled in the Abel Tasman National Park in the South Islands northern tip there is no escaping nature at Awaroa Lodge. The property which boasts easy access to golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters comprises 50 acres of prime bush clad wilderness land, being the largest freehold land within the national park along with being the only dedicated commercial luxury lodge of its type allowed within the Park.
Established in 1991 Awaroa Lodge comprises 26 villa suites overlooking wild bush and wetlands, a large 100 person restaurant, licensed bar, conference facilities, a courtyard caf?, plus reception, lounge and library. The organic gardens of Awaroa are famous for providing fresh organic herbs and vegetables to the restaurant. Recent upgrades have seen 12 new luxury superior villa suites, complete remodelling of the public facilities, a large conservatory fine dining room overlooking the Pukeka and birdlife wetlands, a new soft furnished lounge and a large library of books for guest enjoyment, plus a small private massage relaxation centre for refreshing treatments.
In 2010 ABBA Lodge, aimed at the budget traveller, was established within the main Awaroa Bay land holding. The location of this new budget lodge could not be better. It is at the junction of the Abel Tasman National Park Track and is complemented by a stunning open area licensed Pizza Bar which offers refreshment not only to in house guests but to other passing travellers as well. Last year the Abel Tasman National Park hosted 151,000 people consisting of 120,000 day visitors and 31,000 overnighters. ABBA Lodge is the only budget accommodation in the northern part of the Park offering hotel style accommodation with hot water, TV, internet, full kitchen and bathroom and laundry facilities. ABBA Lodge accommodates 21 guests in seven 3 bedded rooms. Alongside the lodge there is separate staff accommodation for Awaroa Lodge in house staff.
Running alongside and complimenting ABBA Lodge and Bar is the Sea Kayak operation. This includes 12 sea kayaks for open water guided kayaking along the National Park coastline, plus another ten freedom kayaks to operate in the Awaroa inlet in tidal conditions.
Despite there being no road access, Awaroa Lodge is easily accessible by water taxi, plane or helicopter and the more adventurous can arrive on foot via the Abel Tasman Track or by Sea Kayak.
This modern and stylish lodge has been designed in harmony with its beautiful natural surroundings and caters to a range of guests from international travellers to Kiwi families and couples and offers the ideal location from which to get close to all this stunning and diverse coastline has to offer.
With an established reputation, business relationships with wholesalers and inbound operators in place and revenue streams from a number of different outlets, the future of tourism in this unique slice of New Zealand is just waiting for a new owner/operator to take over and stamp their own personality on this iconic Kiwi Lodge.
